How building your own tool chest works
- Pick a storage unit. Choose the chest, roller cabinet, top box or modular unit you want. The builders hold the real published drawer dimensions for each one.
- Fill the drawers. Drop in tool trays or foam inserts. Only trays that fit the unit are offered, and the drawer view shows exactly where each one sits.
- Add the build to your basket. The cabinet and every tray go into your basket together, as normal catalogue products.
Tool chest with tools included, or build your own?
A tool chest with tools included is usually a fixed kit: one cabinet and one selection of tools chosen for you. Building your own means the socket sets, spanners, screwdrivers and pliers in the drawers are the ones you will use, every tray fits its drawer, and you can leave drawers empty to grow into.

Tool chest foam inserts or tool trays?
Foam inserts and tool trays both give every tool a place, so a missing tool is obvious at a glance. What matters most is fit: width, front-to-back depth and drawer height. Draper uses EVA foam trays, Teng offers TT tool trays alongside foam trays, and Sealey makes tool trays for its own chests and rollcabs.

Yes. The builders are free and nothing is charged while you plan. You only pay if you check out with the build in your basket.
Will the tool trays fit my drawers?
Each builder holds the maker's published drawer dimensions for every chest and cabinet it offers, and only offers trays that fit the unit you picked. The drawer view shows exactly where each tray sits before you buy.
Can I mix trays from different brands?
No. Each builder uses that maker's own trays, sized for that maker's drawers, so a build stays within one brand. Pick the builder that matches the chest you own or want.
I already own a tool chest. Can I just buy the trays?
Yes. Build the layout for the chest you own, add the build to your basket, then remove the chest from the basket before checkout and keep the trays.
Can I keep a copy of my build?
Yes. Each builder can produce a printable PDF specification of your build, so you can save it, share it or come back to it later.
