How to Plan a Sealey Tool Chest Layout (Before You Buy)

A tool chest is one of those purchases you make once and live with for a decade, so it pays to think about the layout before the box arrives. Here is how we approach planning a Sealey chest or roller cabinet - and how to test your layout online first.

The company behind the steel

Sealey has been trusted since 1978 to provide tools, advice and aftercare, and it remains 100% family owned and run from its headquarters in Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk. The range now spans over 13,000 products sold in more than 70 countries, with a global reputation built on innovation, quality and aftersales service. Tool storage is one of its flagship categories, from compact tool chests to full-size roller cabinets and modular systems.

Know the guarantee tiers

Sealey's guarantee structure is worth understanding when you choose a range:

  • Every Sealey product carries a minimum 1-year parts and labour guarantee.
  • Premier and Premier Industrial storage carries a 10-year parts and labour guarantee.
  • Premier and Siegen hand tools are covered by a lifetime guarantee against manufacturing defects.
  • Extended guarantees are available free of charge on many products when you register the purchase.

As with any guarantee, general wear and tear, misuse and consumables are excluded, and claims are made via the place of purchase with proof of purchase - keep your order confirmation.

Five rules for a layout that works

  • Heavy low. Big sockets, vices and power tools belong in the deep bottom drawers - better for the cabinet's stability and your back.
  • Daily tools at hand height. The drawers you open twenty times a day should be the ones between waist and chest.
  • Shallow drawers for control. Slim top drawers suit screwdrivers, pliers and precision tools where you want everything visible in one layer.
  • One job, one drawer. If a brake job always needs the same six tools, give them a drawer rather than scattering them by category.
  • Leave growth space. A full cabinet on day one is a problem by month three.

Test the layout before you buy

Our Sealey tool storage configurator lets you choose a Sealey chest or cabinet, drop tool trays into each drawer at their real dimensions and rearrange them until the layout works - then add the whole build to your basket in one go. It is the pen-and-paper planning stage, minus the pen, the paper and the measuring tape.
