The Ultimate Garage Setup – 5 Must-Have Tools for Vehicle Maintenance
The Ultimate Garage Setup – 5 Must-Have Tools for Vehicle Maintenance
Whether you're changing your oil, swapping brake pads or just checking under the bonnet, having the right tools in your garage makes all the difference.
At Town Tools, we stock high-quality, reliable gear that helps both DIYers and professionals service their vehicles safely and efficiently.
Here are 5 must-have tools for any home garage or workshop, built to keep your projects rolling smoothly.
1. 🪜 Axle Stands – Stability You Can Trust
No job under the car should ever rely on a jack alone.
Axle stands provide a rock-solid base and peace of mind.
✅ Choose by:
-
Weight rating (2–6 tonne)
-
Pin or ratchet style
-
Rubber or saddle grips
🛠 Top pick: Sealey 6 Tonne Axle Stands – AS6R – heavy-duty, wide base, and ideal for vans or 4x4s.
2. 🏋️♂️ Trolley Jack – Fast, Controlled Lifting
For lifting with speed and stability, a hydraulic trolley jack is essential.
Perfect for wheel changes, brake jobs, or underbody access.
🛠 Look for: low-profile models if you work with lowered vehicles.
💡 Tip: Always pair with axle stands for safety.
3. 🛢 Oil Drain Pan – Mess-Free Maintenance
No more spills or guesswork. An oil drain pan makes oil changes cleaner, faster, and more eco-friendly.
✅ Features to look for:
-
Large capacity (6–10 litres)
-
Integrated pour spout
-
Handles for easy disposal
🛠 Helps comply with safe oil disposal regulations at home.
4. 🔋 Battery Charger – Avoid a Flat Start
Flat battery on a Monday morning? Don’t get caught out.
A smart battery charger keeps your car, motorbike or van powered and healthy.
⚡ Choose:
-
Automatic shut-off
-
Compatibility with AGM, gel, and lead-acid batteries
-
Winter mode if you store your vehicle seasonally
🛠 Also great for reviving drained batteries after lockdowns or long storage.
5. 🔩 Creeper Board – Comfort Under the Car
If you're working under the car regularly, a creeper trolley keeps you rolling (literally) while protecting your back.
✅ Look for:
-
Padded headrest
-
Low profile design
-
Built-in trays for tools
🛠 Makes even a quick inspection feel professional.
🧠 Bonus Tip: Organise Your Setup
Label storage bins for fixings and fluids, wall-mount your most-used tools, and always keep a torch and gloves on standby.
A great garage setup isn’t about having every tool — it’s about having the right ones.
With just a few essentials from Town Tools, you can handle 80% of home vehicle maintenance confidently and safely.
